More about the Workshop:

The darkness and dormancy of winter offers us an invitation to attune more closely to the world of dreams. We will do this through a series of practices that blend together dialogue, drawing/writing, and movement/dance. In addition to exploring our personal nighttime dreams, we will invite curiosity around questions related to collective dreaming on many scales of space and time. Local artist and sound witch Rachel Austin will be creating live music during the event, accompanying us and catalyzing us deeper into the dreamscapes.

Working with dreams can spark transformation in our perception, insight, and relationships. It can be both challenging and also extraordinarily restorative and rejuvenating, depending on the route that unfolds. I’m coming from a lifetime of tracking dreams, traversing in liminal spaces, and exploring dreams through creative modalities like dance. In the lineage of my somatic movement practice, we learned techniques for witnessing and moving dreams through a lens related to Jungian Depth Psychology. I am also inspired by the frameworks of Dreambody and Process Work developed by Amy and Arnold Mindell, Butoh Dance techniques which connect us to seemingly hidden worlds, Daoist approaches to dream process (as taught by Liu Ming), and a general animist approach to dreams that might at times be at odds with western psychology. Buddhist dream circles and Druid dream consultation have also probably influenced my set of dream tools. Overall, I leave the door open to many possibilities in terms of what dreaming really is, why we do it, where we go, the interconnection of minds of many species and forms, and so forth. The practices in this workshop are exploratory and experimental and do not require any particular set of beliefs about dreaming.

During the break half-way through the workshop, participants are invited (optional) to stroll to Moore’s Creek just down the road to connect with the dreaming of water.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Bring the dreams that want to be worked with – trust your intuition on which ones those are. I suggest bringing the dreams in written form to help jog your memory on the details. (Reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to discuss. If you don’t already have an active dream tracking practice, start writing down your dreams so that you have something to bring along).
  • Blankets to lay on the ground to stay extra cozy
  • Clothes layers as body temperature may fluctuate
  • Snacks and water. Herbal tea will be provided.

“Dreams are not riddles to be solved. They are relations to be met, threshold messengers carrying medicine from the unseen world into the waking one.” – Shannon Willis
